Step 3: Implement real-time guardrails. Deploy automated data protection that detects and redacts sensitive information before it reaches external AI tools. This includes PII, financial data, source code, and any data classified as confidential under your policies.

Step 4: Enable with guidance, not gates. Provide employees with real-time coaching — just-in-time prompts that explain why certain data shouldn't be shared and suggest safer alternatives. This builds an AI-literate workforce rather than a frustrated one.

Step 5: Measure and iterate. Track adoption patterns, policy violations, and risk trends over time. Use this data to refine your AI governance policies and demonstrate ROI to leadership.
