Overview
Pi (Personal Intelligence) launched in 2023 as Inflection AI's consumer chatbot emphasizing warm, supportive, voice-friendly conversation. In March 2024 Microsoft paid Inflection roughly $650M and hired most of its staff, including co-founders Mustafa Suleyman and Karen Simonyan, to lead Microsoft AI. Inflection subsequently ended Pi's WhatsApp/Messenger integrations, added usage caps, and pivoted the remaining company to B2B under CEO Sean White. The pi.ai consumer service is still reachable in 2026 but is effectively legacy: there is no enterprise product, SSO, admin console, DPA self-service, or published SOC 2 attestation. Inflection's privacy policy reserves a royalty-free license to use user Content to train and improve models, and data is retained as long as accounts remain active.

- Prefer Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT Enterprise, or Claude for Work for equivalent chat needs
- Delete account and request data deletion (privacy@inflection.ai) if no longer used
- Monitor vendor announcements for deprecation or migration to Microsoft
- Include Pi in shadow-AI discovery rules to surface consumer use
- Do not build any workflows or integrations that depend on Pi long term
Data handling
- Storage
- Consumer cloud service hosted in the US; no regional residency, tenant isolation, or enterprise infrastructure commitments.
- Retention
- Personal information stored for as long as the account is active; users can delete accounts and request data deletion via privacy@inflection.ai.
- Training on inputs
- Users grant a royalty-free, perpetual, sublicensable license to Content, which may be used to train and improve Inflection's and third-party generative models.
